So we did a thing today installing #headstones - w So we did a thing today installing #headstones - well, they mostly did but I “supervised”. My arm is still bum from surgery but I carried stuff! 5 more to go for these #USCT #CivilWar guys! Last year, a few men from @124th_nysv turned over the fallen headstone of Henry #Bruen and today we reset it while also installing a new one for Ansolem #Halsey We’re so thrilled to give these men the proper respect they’re due. Amazing day! 🇺🇸🇺🇸
I'm in the middle of a #genealogy scanning project I'm in the middle of a #genealogy scanning project and I've come across some really cool finds. This one here is from Anthony #Yelverton who has two local claims to fame. In #UlsterCoNY he built the oldest wooden frame house that is still there today. In #OrangeCoNY he inherited the #YelvertonInn in #ChesterNY which is still there today, too. #GeorgeWashington #AlexanderHamilton and #AaronBurr are all known to have been there at the Inn. I'm still trying to puzzle out why one article I read said Anthony's father was a judge in Poughkeepsie as I'm not sure he was but that's still on-going research. What are the odds there are TWO different Anthony Yelverton's alive at the same time post Revolution? Not much. Hezekiah #Howell (who the cow was purchased for) was a #RevolutionaryWar soldier and local farmer. I take care of his grave and that of his wife (and my 1 cousin 9x removed) Julianna #Woodhull - sister to the RW martyr General #NathanielWoodhull
I have been enjoying scanning #genealogy binders f I have been enjoying scanning #genealogy binders for the #Boardfamily here in NY and NJ. The grandmother meticulously #handpainted all the #coatsofarms for each #surname in this collection. Very excited to be privy to some original #RevolutionaryWar era documents in these binders. It’s pure paper treasure!
@shamrocks74 and I attended the sign dedication by @shamrocks74 and I attended the sign dedication by @124th_nysv honoring four members of the 124th NY Volunteers from #OrangeCountyNY that are buried at the Early Cemetery. While there we also did our #NSDAR duties and visited the #RevolutionaryWar grave of Sgt Elihu Spears, who was killed by a falling rock the day after peace was declared at the New Windsor Cantonment.

She was witty, unconventional - if not wild, living with a man for eons before she ever married him after she survived a very bad first marriage to a man who killed himself in front of her. This Saturday is the culmination of a year long pr This Saturday is the culmination of a year long project for me in getting the #washingtonvillecemetery a historic NY roadside sign that commemorates their 1854 founding and as the burial place of Major Nathaniel Strong who was murdered in 1778 by a Tory bandit. My #NSDAR chapter and the SAR will be marking his grave as part of the sign unveiling. This day means a lot to me as my father has 4 Purple Hearts from Vietnam. 89 YEARS AGO TODAY: 22 February 1932 The modern #PurpleHeart medal was established on this date, by General Order #3, signed by General Douglas MacArthur. The date was chosen in observance the 200th anniversary of the birth of #GeorgeWashington. The award was inspired by the Badge of Military Merit, created by Washington in the waning days of the Revolution. As was the Badge of Military Merit, the Purple Heart was also originally a merit based award. Wounds received in action were one way a person could qualify for the award. However, since 1942, the medal is awarded to U.S. service members who have been killed or wounded by enemy action. . . 💜 #nationalpurplehearthallofhonor
