Kim sent me this photo of one of Grandma Rose’s Japanese lady statues she mentioned on May 12th.

I’m coming to realize Grandma Rose is just the busiest person ever.  Does she ever sit and read a book?  I know there have been a few mentions of her watching her soap operas, but they’re very sparse so far.  She just seems to be always on her feet, always cleaning, and always “doing”.  I have to think this is something with her generation as my dad’s mother was very much this way, too.  I don’t know that I ever saw her sit down except to eat.  She was always “going” like the Energizer Bunny and that’s what Grandma Rose reminds me of as well.  Just busy, busy.  Makes me feel very lazy in comparison!

I’m laughing somewhat at her moth ball comment this week as we just put out some to dissuade a gopher from under our sun porch as his summer home.  Old remedies work!

NOTE:  As always, I left her spelling, capitalization, and punctuation as much as possible.

May 7, 1977 – Washed some hand washing bras, new blouses. They Dried outdoors. Beautiful but cool. Didn’t dry too fast.

Washed three big screens and small one in bath tub. Cleaned shower & tub stall; rod, etc. Hung new shower curtain. Took off and washed tank, covers and lid cover.

May 8, 1977 – Washed windows. Put in two big living room windows. Rosie, Darryl, Bartholomew, Kim, Dean and Robin came down for Mothers Day supper. They brought baked beans, cole slaw, macaroni & cheese- meatballs; Mothers Day cake and a cake for Len with his name. I made chicken & noodles, tossed salad and ice tea.

Took a ride up the cree – then opened my present – Pair of pants liners. Kim & Rosie gave me a piggy back plant. Have always wanted one since hearing Sally Flowers tell about them on the TV years ago.

May 9, 1977 – Went to Dr. Today. He didn’t say too much about the foot but said for Len to finish the medicine he was taking. To dress the foot once a day till next week, then once a every other day. Next appt is three weeks. Didn’t do much the rest of this day. Kinda pooped. Loafed around.

Thought: Failures are divided into two classes: those who thought and never did, and those who did and never thought.

May 10, 1977 – Washed pillow cases for Susan’s gift; also two other pair that Len had finished embroidering a while back. Washed curtains with basket embroidery & apron. Len did dampen them all down.

Watered some of the flowers in the greenhouse. Washed window & put in bathroom window.

May 11, 1977 – Ironed pillow slips, apron, etc. Traced Len another flower to work on. Ironed and put up curtains (Len embroidered with baskets) in the hallways. Put down rug in the front of stove in A.M.

Worked on wall of flower bed in patio and trimmed evergreens underneath. Swept entire breezeway and raked junk & sticks off the flower beds. Emptied another wagon of trash & stalkes I raked from the west bank flower beds. Put out more moth balls around flowers to keep away cats, dogs and rabbits???

May 12, 1977 – Mended big screen, washed west window in living room and put in screen. Cleaned behind the Davenport, cleaned pictures, Japanese ladies – odds and ends of bric-a-brac. Cleaned bed (Len & I) and cleaned bedroom & bathroom – Will do mirrors tomorrow.

Raked some in yard after Brenda and Rodger mowed.

Did Lens foot about 3:00 P.M.

May 13, 1977 – Ran sweeper over house. Got out good stainless steel flatware and chicken and bread from freezer to thaw for tomorrow. Cooked few pieces for noodles. Cleaned up some cut grass and watered some flowers.

Dressed Lens foot – about 3:00 P.M. Looks pretty good, tho’ hole where Dr. opened is still draining red tinge.
